Since I conceived Eternal Mass in 2014, it has been my dream to bring it to life.

I am pleased to realize this vision virtually utilizing the new medium, NFT, on a digital platform.

 

Eternal Mass was first inspired by quantum physics which theorizes that for each particle there exists an antiparticle of the same mass with an opposite charge. I imagined a visualization of the six “unseen” spatial dimensions of superstring theory and completed a 3D model of the sculpture based on the form of a Calabi-Yau Manifold.

 

For the past several years, my work entered a new phase as I was drawn to the creation myth recorded in the eighth-century Kojiki (An Account of Ancient Matters). In this project, I focused on the account that the five generations of the first seven generations of terrestrial deities emerged as a pair. I aspired to create a metaphorical parallel between the symmetry principle of quantum physics and the pairing of the opposite genders in the ancient mythology.

 

Most life in this world is brought to light by coupling. Bonding to form a pair is sacred, pure, and transcendent. It is a way and a key for any life to continue for generations. In Kojiki, the first series of solitary celestial deities hid in another “unseen“ dimension immediately after their emergence. The myth implies that our bodies cannot remain forever in this world, but our souls will never perish. In the Neolithic period, our remote ancestors understood the rebirth by observing the cycle of nature and developed beliefs in the transmogrification of the soul. In Buddhist philosophy, the circle of reincarnation, posited as “no birth, no death, no being, no non-being“ led to the faith in the eternity of soul.

 

I have visualized the souls that exist in the “unseen“ dimension in the form of individual pearlescent spheres to construct Eternal Mass. I hope these “eternal souls“ connect with many people who are linked through a digital network.

 

There are multiple choices for us to live today. Our fate may be to tie, give love to each other, and nurture a new life.I hope you will celebrate together the coupling of Eternal Mass, virtual lifeforms, via NFT and share the sacred moment.
